I have PCOS and acne problems.. help!?! Birth control question to..?
SO I have been diagnosed with PCOS last year and since I gained weight i have been having really bad skin problems.
I started birth control almost a month ago and my doctor said that I might have to come off of it because my body wasn’t reacting well with the hormones; I started taking the pill on the third day of my period, it lasted four days then two weeks later my period came back again, I still have it.
My skin has gotten more acne since I started taking the pills and it seems as if I get a new pimple every day. It’s really annoying and I have dark scars all over my face.
Questions..
1. What treatment is best for this sever acne.
2. What alternatives do I have besides birth control to regulate my period?
The doctor said I might have to come off if this blood release continues when I start my next pack.
I am taking metformine and my doctor told me to wait a week before I start my next pack, she thinks my body isn’t reacting well with the hormones.

Metformin can be given in PCO for insulin resistance. Recently it was found that insulin resistance can be a cause of PCO

I have PCOS and I have tried 3 different pills. They can take a few months to really kick in, and therefore it may take a while for your skin to improve. You didn’t say which pill it was you are taking so I can’t comment much on that. You’re gynaecologist will only do what is best for you, so trust them. It may take some experimentation to find the right medication for you, as each person reacts differently. Good luck
Welcome to the PCOS club! It sucks! Firstly if you are still a teenager (as I expect you are), it’s going to take a long time for your body to regulate regardless of if you are taking birth control or not. Secondly you should know that the primary reason why doctors put you on birth control is not because they want to regulate your period (that’s what they say, but it’s not true), they do it to keep your cysts from forming, and potentially rupturing which causes hospitalization.
For the acne, I don’t know. I recommend going to a dermatologist, if you can’t go to one without a recommendation talk to your regular doctor and ask for one.
I don’t know what alternatives there are besides birth control. I did Provera for 3 years (don’t take it, that s*** is awful!) Then switched to Orthocyclene for 2 years, when I decided to stop taking it. For the next four years, I only had one period a year, but it lasted for a month straight. Then I became sexually active, and I got birth control again, because I did have to protect myself from becoming pregnant. I took birth control then for two years. And then stopped again, because I was no longer sexually active. I went back to my one period a year, lasting a month situation. I did that for about 5 years, then I was going to go on vacation, and didn’t want to be on my period for the trip, so I bought some birth control online (bad idea, but I did it anyway), and proceeded to bleed for 3 months straight until I stopped taking medication all together. Ever since then I have had a normal once a month for 5-10 day period (some months are heavier then others, some are longer then others, just depends on why my body decides I need to have).
So there is hope! Now keep in mind I was diagnosed at the age of 13, and I was 26 or 27 before I finally had a normal period schedule, so it took me 14 years to find a program that works for me and my body.
You need to definitely talk this over with your mom and your doctor, and find out what they recommend. If you don’t like what your doctor says, go see another doctor. Find one who knows about PCOS, and all that it entails, because there are numerous things that play into having PCOS. Also go to the internet, there are forums for women with PCOS to get support from other sufferers, and also to get medical help or advice. http://www.soulcysters.com/ Try this website, and here’s the link to the google search for PCOS http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source=hp&q=pcos&rlz=1R2SUNA_enUS361&aq=f&aqi=g10&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&fp=d90e7c340cb31971
I wish you the best of luck! And have faith that it will all work out for the best! God bless!
